Data Protocol
Protocols developed for imaging and measuring seeds or fruits are to ensure the data is collected in a scientific method and a similar fashion by all authors. The protocols will ensure that images and measurements are taken using the same method so that data in all fact sheets are comparable.
The Imaging Protocol provides minimum requirements for the standardization of image taking and presentation to build a reference database. In addition, a standard method and a consistent format are required to present reliable and complete seed or fruit features for diagnostic analysis and for establishing a virtual image database.
The Size Measurement Protocol is to provide a standard and scientific method for measuring seed or fruit size, the features that will be used for identification or morphological description.
So that fact sheets are developed consistently, ISMA requires authors to use the following resources:
- Fact Sheet Template for Seed Identification Guide ® (SIG)
- Common Shape Chart
- Common Surface Feature Chart
- Common Colour Description Chart
- Common Embryo Feature Chart
